Málaga counts on an excellent communications network with the whole Europe. It has a commercial and tourist harbour; an international airport that holds the number three in the country’s ranking according to the number of passengers; daily high speed train connections, and a network of highways and motorways connected with the main activity centres in the country.
Málaga airport is the third in the Spanish ranking and is also among the top twenty in Europe. It is only 11 km from Málaga, in the western area, and has a good communications network by road, hence being just a few minutes from the town centre and the Costa del Sol.
It houses two terminals, one for the flights coming from Spain and the European Union–Terminal A– and the other –Terminal B– for those coming from the rest of the world. It is also worth mentioning its General Aviation terminal, providing space for private flights, and its large and varied shopping area.
The train station, that is located right in the heart of the city, also has a network of suburban trains towards the Western Costa del Sol (including a connection with the airport) and another one towards the province interior.
Located 50 nautical miles from the Strait of Gibraltar and sheltered by a natural bay, Malaga Port has been classed as a border port by the European Union. It is the second most important tourist destination for cruisers in Spain and the sixth in the Mediterranean sea, with a 70% increase in the number of passengers in only four years. It has recently got a 2000 metres increase in the docking lines for cruisers, thus enabling the entry of great draft ships. It has connections and regular stop overs with Melilla, Morocco and Algeria.
