Regarding Vecindario, it is a city located south of Las Palmas, 35 kilometres far by road and 15 kilometres from the Gando airport. It belongs to the municipality of Santa Lucía de Tirajana. It has an estimated population of 70.000 inhabitants and is the main population and commercial center of the Southwest of the island, being part of the Gran Canaria's SouthWest Commonwealth, which includes villages of Santa Lucía, Agüimes and Ingenio.
Santa Lucía was formerly a village which economy was based in agriculture but now it has derived in one of the most important commercial centers in Canary island, attracting thousands of tourists who look not only sun and beach but also culture, ethnography, shopping, gastronomy, leisure and sport. It counts with the biggest open air commercial center in the Canary islands, the Pedestrian Area of Avenida de Canarias and is also known as a reference in windsurfing thanks to the ideal conditions of Pozo Izquierdo beach.
